With my Favorite Spice: Cinnamon

‘Tis the season for spices and teas. The smell of cinnamon is synonymous with the holidays. We all love the taste of it in our beverages, and on top of holiday sweet treat. But are you aware of all the health benefits of this magical spice???

Cinnamon is a dynamic and mighty spice that has been used medicinally around the world for thousands of years. Its unique smell and flavor comes from the oily part of the Cinnamomum tree. The bark of the Cinnamomum tree contains numerous exceptional compounds that have health-promoting properties including: cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, and cinnamate.

What does this mean? The antioxidants in cinnamon can have these therapeutic affects on the body:

1) It’s an anti-inflammatory

2) Protects heart health

3) It helps fight against diabetes by controlling insulin levels

4) Prevents cognitive decline

5) Fights infectious viruses and diseases

6) Promotes dental health and gives naturally fresh breath

7) Protects the skin from irritations/ rashes/ infections/ allergic reactions, and so much more!

8) One tablespoon of cinnamon contains: 20 calories, 4g of fiber, 8% calcium, and 4% iron.

Vanilla Cinnamon Chia Pudding

(4 Servings)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • ½ cup Chia Seeds
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (less is better) maple syrup (or agave syrup)
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon powder

Method

  1. Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high for 1-2 mins until completely smooth.
  2. Pour mixture into a glass container and place in the refrigerator overnight to let gel.
  3. Serve & ENJOY!!!
