Most coffee lovers complain that certain coffees are brewed too acidic. We’re brining you the healthy solution without making you sacrifice your morning cup o’Joe. Cold brew coffee uses beans that are naturally low in acid. An accumulation of too much acid from diet creates an unhealthy environment in our bodies. We want to eat alkaline (opposite of acidic) rich foods like leafy greens, lemon, low sugar fruit, and some kinds of natural nuts. The lower the acid the better, which is why you need more cold brew in your life! Check out this awesome cold brew recipe!

 

COLD BREW COFFEE

SERVES 2

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 ½ ounces of coarsely ground coffee
  • (about 1 ¾ cups)
  • 3 ½ cups cold water
  • Milk, half-and-half, or water
  • Simple Syrup/ Sugar/ Sugar Substitute
  • Ice

Method

  1. Place the coffee grounds in a 2-quart pitcher, add water, and stir to combine.
  2. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for at least 12 hours.
  3. Line a fine mesh strainer with a coffee filter and fill it over a medium bowl.
  4. Working in batches, slowly pour the coffee into the filter until all of the liquid has passed through the strainer (coffee will pass through in a slow stream; don’t force it through); stop when you reach the solids at the bottom of the pitcher (don’t pour them in).
  5. Discard the grounds and the contents of the strainer.
  6. Wash and dry the pitcher.
  7. Transfer the strained coffee into the pitcher.
  8. Cover and refrigerate until completely chilled, at least 2 hours or up to 5 days.

For Serving

For each cup of iced coffee, dilute the concentrate with an equal portion of milk, half and half, or water. Sweeten with simple syrup or sugar of your choice and top with desired amount of ice.
