Cheat Sheet 4: Guide to Healthy Drinking

Is The idea of Healthy Drinking an oxymoron? Well abstaining from drinking during the holiday season is not always easy. So find your compromise drink; something that you enjoy but does pack on the calories.

People always say that drinking alcohol is empty calories but do you know why????

It is because alcohol contains no nutrients and is a lot of work for our bodies to process. Alcohol cannot be stored in our bodies, so it is always processed first. Most alcohol on its own (see below) is low sugar and low calories, so we cannot blame it specially when we pack on the pounds. However, as a rule, it is actually the mixers and the food we eat with the alcohol that are the real culprits. However, that does not mean we need to drink our whiskey straight.

Instead, when choosing a mixer, pick fresh squeezed or 100 percent fruit juice, swap sugary syrups for fresh or frozen fruits, and try favored or sparkling water over sodas. When it comes to avoiding a hangover, drink beverages lighter in color and always remember size does matter (pick drinks 8oz. or less).
